Thursday, February 23, 7:00 PM, Mangia Italiano (3145 S. Grand Blvd., in the basement) - regular 15th Ward Democrats monthly meeting

Thursday, March 29, 7:30 PM, Carpenter Branch Library (3309 S. Grand Blvd., in the basement) - 15th Ward Mass Meeting for delegate selection - this replaces the regular 15th Ward Democrats March 21 meeting

Thursday, April 26. 7:00 PM, Carpenter Branch Library (3309 S. Grand Blvd., in the basement) - Candidates Forum for August Primary Election

Presidential Preference Primary - February 7

Tuesday, February 7, is Missouri's Presidential Preference Primary. Polls will be open from 6 AM to 7 PM. Sample ballots for each party can be found on the St. Louis City Board of Elections web site.
You can also check out their website to verify your current polling place. In addition to the previously discussed change from Marian to Mann School as a 15th Ward polling place, many people changed wards last fall. So be sure to check your voter card or the website for your current polling place.

Anyone who wants to participate as a delegate in the Democratic convention (or participate in the selection process of ward delegates in March) must have voted in this Primary.

The 15th Ward polling place of Marian School is going to be changed to Mann School (4047 Juniata) starting with the February 7th election.

Fanning School remains as is.

15th Ward Democrats Meeting / Progressive Dinner - 10/27

The October meeting of the 15th Ward Democrats will be held on Thursday, October 27. Like last year, we will have a progressive dinner meeting by visiting several local eateries on South Grand. Please join us for all or part of this fun evening.

Here's the plan:

6:30 p.m.-- Drinks at Mangia Italiano, 3145 So. Grand

7:00 p.m.-- Dinner at Mekong Restaurant, 3131 So. Grand (we will also be holding election of officers)

8:00 p.m.-- Dessert at Gelateria, 3197 So. Grand

**** In the event that there is a Game 7 of the World Series, we will vote very quickly at Mekong so people can leave to watch the game if they wish. We will also cancel the dessert stop.

Congratulations to the 15th Ward Democrats team for winning the St. Louis City Democratic Central Committee Trivia Night on Friday Night!

It was neck and neck with the 28th Ward for much of the night, but we pulled it off!

We had a great time and even had Senator Claire McCaskill as our special lifeline for one of the rounds.

Many thanks to Debi Pratt, Richard Buthod, Ruth Brown, Diane Bounds, Jennifer Florida, Steve Gregali, John Colbert, and our mascot, Juniper Colbert, for participating!!

Don't forget to vote in this Tuesday's important election. President of the Board of Aldermen, Proposition E (retention of the city's earnings tax), and some non-partisan education-related positions will be on the ballot in the 15th Ward. The Board of Elections sample ballot can be found here.

Polls are open 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.

We'll be talking about the spring elections, the city earnings tax proposition, local control, and our plans for 2011.

Spring Candidate Filings & Updates

Filing for the March 8 Primary Election closed on Friday. The only candidate race this spring that will be on the ballot in the 15th Ward is President of the Board of Aldermen. Lewis Reed is the only Democrat to file, so we will have an uncontested primary. We were told at the Central Committee meeting yesterday that although the Board of Elections web site doesn't have it listed yet, a Green Party candidate also filed for that position, so it will be a contested race on the April 5 Ballot.

Also on the April Ballot will be the proposition about the city earnings tax. The Board of Elections hasn't assigned it a proposition number yet, but the Central Committee voted to support a yes vote (meaning to keep the existing earnings tax in place). This is in line with the no vote on last fall's Proposition A (confused yet?). We will be working hard to continue the education we did last fall on why keeping the earnings tax in place is so important to the city. Regarding the DNC 2012 Convention, Brian Wahby said we should know which city is chosen within the next 10 to 14 days. Keep those fingers crossed!

Gregg and I will have updates on these initiatives as well as other information from yesterday's Central Committee meeting at the next 15th Ward Democrats meeting - Thursday, January 27, 7:00 PM, location TBD (I will post it as soon as it is confirmed). 15th Ward Results from 11/2 Election

Attached are the 15th Ward unofficial election results (click on a picture to blow it up larger).

Our overall voter turnout in the 15th Ward was 50.08% compared to city wide of 48.52%

Here's how we compared to the city wide numbers on key races:
Robin Carnahan - 80.53% to city's 79.12%
Susan Montee - 81.62% to city's 80.68%
Russ Carnahan - 79.87% to city's 66.62%
Prop A - 74.64% No to city's 68.16%
Prop B - 80.56% Yes to city's 78.39%
Prop L - 71.77% Yes to city's 68.92%

So we did better than the city overall on all of these (and obviously better than the state overall). Again, many thanks to all of you for your hard work for these candidates and issues!

We beat the overall city number, but we'll need to do a lot better than this to win statewide in November!
